Mother’s Day Gift Bag

This week my class has been busy making Mother’s Day Gift Bags as part of a school Enterprise Project.

We thought it would be fun to try to produce something connected with a public event and, after a little research into various gift ideas, we developed our Mother’s Day gift bag.

A little Organza bag filled with fourteen heartwarming trinkets;

Seeds— For watching me grow.

Flowers—If you were a flower I’d pick you.

Jigsaw piece—You are an important piece of my life.

Safety pin—For always keeping me safe.

Tissue—For always wiping my tears away.

Glitter—For your sparkle.

Peg—For keeping things together.

Penny—A penny for your thoughts.

Teabag—Now you’ve looked after me you can relax.

Lovehearts—For loving me

Knotted string—For always remembering things.

Candle—For lighting the candle on my birthday.

Sweet—You are sweet.

Marble—In case you lose yours.

We began our project by spending our initial capital on making a single product; this was used to show to potential customers last week.

From Monday to Wednesday we took orders; this helped us to guage how many resources we needed to purchase to produce our gift bags. Order Forms were arranged by class, with columns for Number required and whether the customer had paid or not.

On Thursday we produced 116 Gift bags, using Henry Ford’s production line model, and began to ship them out to our customers.

Sycamore Spinners

Autumn is quickly descending; leaves are falling and leaving me with bare branches to sketch instead of lovely foliage. And days are getting colder and giving less opportunity to hang around outside sketching.

I picked these up in the local supermarket carpark, shed from the trees in the park next door. I brought them home and scattered them across the table, whilst Lucy eyed them for her class display.

Brighouse and Beyond exhibition

It’s exciting having some of my work featured in the latest ‘What’s On in the local area’ booklet. Details about the exhibition that I am taking part in in September.

I’m focusing on pubs, public houses, in the local town of Brighouse, a small, urban market town in West Yorkshire.

If you’re around in Brighouse sometime in October pop in to the Smith Art Gallery, which is located in the town library.

Watercolour-Painting with Pat Jones

I feel I had a fairly successful day’s work on a course with watercolourist Pat Jones.

She led the group step by step through producing this painting, demonstrating different techniques.

Autumn Weather Blues

The days are getting colder here and I’m finding it harder and harder to spend long stretches outside; a problem when I prefer to work outside. The weather seems to be against me at the moment too; as we keep have stretches of drizzle, which is impossible for me to work in.

Work continues on my series of drawings of pubs in Brighouse, I’m up to about nine at the moment – although none are complete yet!

Randoo

I’ve downloaded and app for my iphone called Randoo.

Once you have typed in a list of things to do, whenever you open it up the app randomly picks an item off the list and displays it.

It seems like a useful app for when I need a bit of inspiration.

I’ve started to type in the Every Day Matters challenges.

Illustration Friday has a list of topics.
